About Sushi Iwashi

If you are searching for a place that captures the spirit of Tokyo without leaving Mexico City, Sushi Iwashi deserves a spot on your list. Located in the stylish Polanco neighborhood, this authentic Japanese restaurant brings a calm and welcoming atmosphere that feels different from many trendy dining spots nearby. The moment you walk inside, the setting feels simple, elegant, and focused on the food rather than distractions. That balance makes the restaurant appealing for both casual lunches and relaxed evening dinners with friends or family.

Sushi Iwashi is known for serving Japanese dishes with fresh ingredients and careful presentation. The menu works well for diners who enjoy traditional flavors without unnecessary fusion twists. Small plates and quick bites make it easy to sample several options in one visit, while the drink selection adds even more variety to the experience. Guests can enjoy beer, wine, hard liquor, or other alcoholic beverages alongside sushi and classic Japanese dishes. The restaurant also offers dine in, takeout, and delivery services, which is helpful for people who want restaurant quality food at home or during a busy workday in the city.

One of the best things about Sushi Iwashi is the comfortable and unforced vibe. Instead of feeling overly formal, the restaurant creates an experience that feels approachable and genuine. The staff keeps service smooth and friendly, allowing guests to enjoy their meals at their own pace. Around the lunch hour, the dining room often fills with locals, professionals, and visitors looking for authentic Japanese food in Polanco, creating a lively yet relaxed energy that matches the character of the neighborhood. Its location on Avenida Emilio Castelar also makes it convenient for anyone exploring nearby parks, boutiques, or cultural attractions in Polanco. Many visitors stop by for a quick sushi meal before continuing their afternoon around the neighborhood.

A true sushi paradise — everything was exactly what I hoped for and more. The seafood tasted incredibly fresh, the rice was perfectly balanced, and the whole experience had that refined omakase touch even when ordering from the menu. I tried both the Niki and Temayaki, and every bite was simply spectacular. The setup is all bar seating, which makes it an ideal spot for a date or a solo food adventure. Just make sure to arrive early, as they don’t take reservations. Pro tip: go on Fridays — that’s when they receive their special fish directly from Japan.

This place is good for single pieces of sushi but they do not serve an omakase or have cut rolls. It makes it difficult to know how much money you are spending if you are getting offered suggested pieces from the chef. The quality of the fish was exceptional though.

Sushi Iwashi is a phenomenal 10/10 dining experience that I highly recommend to any sushi lover. The toro and red snapper nigiri are absolutely fire, offering incredible freshness and quality. Their sashimi selection is equally impressive and beautifully presented. What truly sets this place apart is the attentive service and the excellent beverage options available to complement your meal. I was happy to find large bottle formats of Kirin Ichiban, which is a rare treat. It is the perfect spot for a high-quality meal with a great atmosphere. You won't be disappointed by the craft and care they put into every dish! Would you like me to adjust the tone of these reviews to be more casual or more formal?
